SOLD - 1978 Scamp 13 Fiberglass Travel Trailer - $9,700 - Berkeley, CA

After countless adventures, I’m selling my amazing off-road capable Scamp 13 fiberglass trailer.

The trailer is a vintage 1978 Scamp 13 and is in excellent condition. All of the appliances work. It has the following:
-Sink with pump and fresh water holding tank
-2 burner propane stove
-Roof vent
-Dinette that converts into an extremely comfortable double bed
-Bench that doubles as a single bed to sleep a third person
-LED lighting
-Windows that tilt open and have screens and privacy curtains
-Rear hitch for carrying bike racks or cargo carrier

The Scamp comfortably sleeps 3 people, and a bunk could easily be added to sleep 4. It can be towed by almost any vehicle, including vehicles as small as a Mini Cooper or Honda Element! It tows like there is nothing behind you.

The trailer has an upgraded and lifted leaf spring suspension that is significantly more durable than the original suspension and provides much better ground clearance. This makes it perform very well on dirt roads, trails and forest service roads. Most Scamps have very low ground clearance that causes them to easily bottom out and scrape on any uneven terrain, but this Scamp has excellent clearance thanks to the upgraded leaf spring suspension. The improved suspension doesn't affect fuel economy while towing the Scamp whatsoever. The camper only weighs about 975 lbs and has a light and strong fiberglass construction. The aerodynamic design makes it tall enough to stand up in comfortably, but with a low center of gravity that makes it handle extremely well on dirt roads. The Scamp can navigate technical trails and pass under low hanging branches that other trailers simply cannot. The lift makes a huge difference. It’s awesome.

It is only 13’ long in total. It’s incredible how much living space is fit into the 13' footprint. The camper has been meticulously maintained. It is extremely nimble and easy to tow, with an excellent turning radius. U-turns, parallel parking, crowded city streets, and tight parking lots are a breeze compared to larger trailers. No other travel trailer with the same level of interior space comes close. It can also fit into low-clearance parking garages in cities, which is incredibly useful for traveling. Because the trailer is so lightweight and can be easily disconnected and moved around the parking lot by hand, you can even park the trailer and your vehicle next to each other in adjacent parking lot spaces. This is something almost no other trailer can do other than a teardrop trailer, which does not have nearly as much livable space. After having fun on the trails, you can drive into the city for dinner or drinks and park in a secure parking garage without worrying about leaving all your gear in a trailer parked on the street. The Scamp can fit inside a standard home garage as well, which is a huge advantage when it comes to long-term parking. Basically no other trailer with a comparable amount of interior living space can do this.

The dinette and bench seat is a great seating arrangement with great visibility for hanging out inside the camper.
It is great for traveling with a small family or with friends. The tow vehicle can seat as many people as you need for the driving part of the trip. Because the Scamp is lifted and has leaf spring suspension, you can take it pretty much anywhere the vehicle can go, which includes most forest service roads if you tow it with an SUV. The trailer tongue has a lock to keep it secure when disconnected from the car and you can use a caster wheel on the jack to move it around. Since the Scamp has permanent trailer license plates, it can legally be parked on its own, disconnected from the car, anywhere a regular car can park including public streets and parking lots.

Thanks to its fiberglass construction the Scamp will pretty much never leak and is as light as most teardrop trailers. Yet it can sleep 3 people, has cooking facilities, and you can stand up in it. When towing it behind a car and I've found it affects fuel economy by less than 1 MPG. When you reach your camping spot, the Scamp can be detached from the car in less than a minute and set up as a permanent campsite, giving you your vehicle back to go off and explore without having to break camp each time.

Minor issues: The door hinges should be adjusted to create a more airtight seal around the bottom edge of the door when it is closed. I've been meaning to do this but haven't gotten around to it. The issue has been fixed temporarily with foam tape along the door frame.

In addition to being an incredible travel trailer, the Scamp serves as a great little spare bedroom for guests whenever needed.

I am the third owner of the trailer. It has been very well taken care of its entire life.

Clean title in hand.

If you don't know much about Scamp trailers, go online and check them out. They're considered by many to be the ideal trailer due to their combination of a durable fiberglass construction that lasts forever and doesn’t leak along with comfort in a compact, fuel-efficient package that can easily be towed by pretty much any car and stored inside a standard garage.
