SOLD - 2005 16' Scamp Travel Trailer - Gibsonville, NC - on Ebay ends Aug 31

  • Scamp Trailers SOLD

Editor's Note:  Sold for $8,100

You are looking at a Scamp 16 Travel trailer that is as near to new as a used trailer gets; had I found a used one like this when I was looking –I would not have bought new!  It was bought new by me in 2005, and has enabled great fun for our family, but our family has grown so we now have 3 mid-sized children –up one from comfortable sleeping in our Scamp –although it works great with three smaller ones.  The great thing about these trailers, other than their quality and durability, is that they are towable by mid-size cars and mini vans; we towed this one with an early 4 cylinder Honda Odyssey.

It is in very clean and in nice condition –never pets, inside cooking, or sticky spills from children, although we did boil water and heat non-aromatic items on the stove from time to time; it is also smoke free as none of us smoke.  I had two new top quality radial tires put on it after a flat in Vermont last month, a new spare, and a new battery earlier this year.  A few years ago the power converter was replaced with a top quality high capacity one after the original failed, and some crimped connections were soldered for added reliability.  All the appliances work great.

This trailer is the front bunk side bath model with all fiberglass interior cabinets [lighter than wood].  Some modifications to the cabinets have been made to greatly improve the utility of the interior space; the drawer under the range is full depth instead of the half drawer Scamp gave us; a hinged panel gives access to the space under the sink for tooth brush and wash cloth storage; a full depth napkin and silverware drawer has been added to the right of the sink; and a few other cabinet doors have been added to give access to otherwise inaccessible space: all have been professionally done with the same material, trim, hinges and knobs that Scamp uses.  Also added are are a light over the stove [glass, metal, and heat–proof], and a rheostatic shaded light over the sink; the over–sink light enabled washing without light in our eyes and a dimmable light for night use.  The table has been replaced with a ParkLiner table that folds flat against the wall, enables a half table, full table, or bed depending on what you need [patent pending].  Removable rails make the bunks safe for very small children and are included with the trailer; they tie and plug on without modification to the trailer.  All these mods would cost almost 2K if done today.  It also has a propane leak detector, fire alarm, carbon monoxide alarm,  a two stage water filter for drinking water, and a dish soap dispenser.

Features I ordered when I bought the trailer are: dual propane tanks, 21 gal. holding tank [Scamp calls it a 26 gal. tank, but it is not on any of their trailers], 12 gal. fresh water tank, range, furnace, sink, city water hookup, bath with shower —no toilet, but it can be easily added, wired for overhead AC [I used a window unit with hose], front bunk/bench combo.  [A note on the AC:  I wanted to keep the profile of the trailer down so I could drive through at banks and fast food windows, and store it in a garage.  I had Scamp wire it for overhead AC, but I have used a small window unit that sits on the ground outside the trailer with a hose that comes in under the furnace; the cool air comes out through the furnace grate.  It does not cool as well as an overhead unit, but it is just fine, and we only carry it in the summer.]
